Winter Field Day March 1, 2014

Come to our Winter Field Day and learn about grafting, mason bees, fruit varieties from around the world, red fleshed apples, and the best apple varieties for Western Washington. There will be live demonstrations of pruning trees and blueberries in our Fruit Garden, and grafting demonstrations inside, and much more. Scionwood and rootstocks will be available for purchase.

Apple and Pear Day

Our next event is the Apple and Pear Day on October 12th, 2013!

Learn about apple and pear varieties with scab resistance and anthracnose control.  Sample sweet cider. There will be some fresh eating apples and pears available for picking to take home. Begins at 11:00 am. For more information go to Apple and Pear Day.

Cherry Sampling Day July 13th!

Come out at 11:00 am on July 13th for our Cherry Sampling Day. Everyone always has fun sampling the many varieties of cherries. There will be a fee of $5 per bag to help cover the costs of maintenance for the cherry block.

Please check this page on the evening before the 13th in case a change is made to the schedule. Some years the date has to be changed or the crop is lost due to weather patterns.

Top Grafting Class on April 11

Learn how you can change an established tree to a new variety.  Come to the volunteer work day Thursday, April 11, at 9:00 am and attend the hands on top grafting class given by Bill Davis!

Be sure to check this page Wednesday the 10th in the evening for confirmation because if the weather will not cooperate the class will be moved to the next week.

New Horticulture Student Membership Catagory

Horticulture Students who become members can now get a membership for $15. They must show proof of their horticulture student status and pay at an event to get this special price.  Our Winter Field Day this Saturday, March 2 is a perfect opportunity to purchase this memberships and then attend our classes and demonstrations for the day!

Change of location for February 23rd Board Meeting

The Saturday, Feb 23rd Board Meeting has a new time and location since the newsletter was published. This is the correct information:

 1-4 pm at the WA. State Convention Center (Northwest Flower & Garden Show).  

If you enter at the main entrance on Pike Street (just East of Eighth street), go South and up the main lobby escalators to the 2nd floor landing and continue to the South end of the lobby where you will find our meeting place. All members are welcome to attend.

NW Flower & Garden Show: Volunteers Wanted!

Volunteers are needed to staff our educational booth at the 2013 Northwest Flower and Garden Show, February 20 – 24, 2013 at the Washington State Convention Center, Seattle.

This is your opportunity to promote fruit growing in Puget Sound and share your interests with show attendees..

Shifts are available for each show day. As a volunteer, you receive free admission to the show that day in return for staffing our booth for one shift (four hours).

The Northwest Flower and Garden Show is celebrating its 25th anniversary and it promises to be a great celebration. Do join us!

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, March 2, 2013 come join us for the Western Washington Fruit Research Foundation’s Winter Field Day. This year’s theme is “Local and Organic”. Come learn to prune and graft and as always we will have rootstock and scionwood available for sale to graft your own tree! Entry is free to all members or $15/ per person.

Apple and Pear Day

Learn about the hard cider research program and see samples of cider apples. Some cider apples will be available for tasting, but many are too bitter for fresh eating.
