Red flesh apples originated from wild red fleshed apple varieties in Central Asia. Breeders have crossed these wild varieties with cultivated apples to create commercially viable red-fleshed apples with excellent flavor.
This tree contains the variety Niedzwetzkyana which is one of the oldest red flesh apples. Although this is a lovely tree, Niedzwetzky’s apples are essentially inedible. Accordingly, we have grafted onto the bottom limbs some of the more familiar varieties of crosses of Niedzwetzkyana and delicious varieties of European apples. These crosses are not only very attractive in appearance, but also have unique and delicious flavors.
