Apple & Pear Sample the Harvest Day

Time: 9:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (registration begins at 9:15 a.m.)
Location: 16650 State Route 536, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 — please enter at the North Entrance after parking.
Fee: Free for current NW Fruit members / $20 public entry (one-day pass)
Presented by NW Fruit, in cooperation with Washington State University Northwest Washington Research and Extension Center.
Learn from experts about the many ways to enjoy the harvest, and take home some fruit. A fruit sampling station will let you taste different varieties of apples and pears. This event is free to current NW Fruit members — become a member ($30 individual / $50 family yearly, or a $20 one-day pass) in advance at nwfruit.org to help keep registration lines short.

- 9:45 a.m. — Introduction (fruit picking begins afterward)
- 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. — Fruit Tasting Tables
- 11:00 a.m. — Apple & Pear Tasting Class
- 12:00 p.m. (Noon), Pavilion — New! Heritage Varieties Class: Sam Benowitz introduces our new collection of 40 endangered apple varieties unique to our region, and how you can get involved. Lori Brakken, apple identification expert, joins Sam and Larry Crum to discuss our new Northwest Heritage apple block and DNA sampling of these varieties.

Bringing an Apple for Identification?
Lori Brakken will have a table at the field day to help identify apples you bring in. If you’d like her to identify a tree, please download and print the sample submission form and bring it with your samples — each sample needs the completed form, six unwiped ripe apples with stems, and a 12″ leafy stem in a ziplock bag (no plastic bags for the apples, and no bread bags/saran wrap/paper bags for the leaves).
