Winter Field Day

Free to NWF members. Become a member by purchasing an annual $25 individual membership or $40 family membership, at the event or preferably now on our website at NWFruit.org. 

Credit card capability on your phone thru PayPal, works for admission but not for other sales. The proceeds fund our organization’s garden maintenance and events.

* Rain or shine – Dress for the weather. A large portion of the day’s events take place in WSU Sakuma Auditorium or under shelter right outside the building. A bit of rain won’t hinder our afternoon pruning demonstration and tour in the garden.

9:30 a.m.: Grafting table demonstration and custom grafts.

Scionwood and rootstock sales until 2:15 p.m.

Class schedule: 

  • 9:00 a.m.    Registration in the NWREC facility
  • 9:20 a.m.    Orientation – auditorium
  • 9:30 a.m.    Grafting and Rootstocks / grafting techniques – auditorium
  • 10:15 a.m.  Scionwood 101: Choosing the right scionwood – auditorium
  • 10:30 a.m.  Successfully starting your home orchard
  • 11 a.m.        Spring and summer tasks with Gary Moulton –auditorium
  • Noon            Lunch/break 
  • 12:30 p.m.  NWFruit membership meeting – auditorium
  • 1 p.m.          Understanding fruit tree pruning with Gary Moulton – auditorium

Classes in the fruit garden:

  • 2 p.m.         Hands-on pruning in the orchard – in the Fruit Garden
  • 2:45 p.m.    Fruit Garden tour – in the Fruit Garden

Grafting demonstration and services, and sales of scionwood and rootstocks:

Watch experienced grafters demonstrate the art of grafting. Sign up at the start of the event to choose scions and rootstock and have us make trees for you to take home. Scionwood, grafting and rootstock tables will close at 2:15 p.m. to give us time to clean up. Obtain your materials before we close. Grafting supplies including knives, grafting bands and, parafilm rolls will be for sale. 

Prices: Scions: $3 ea., Rootstock $5 ea., Custom grafts $7 ea., cash or check.

*Field days are free for members.  Non-members pay $15 for an individual day-of-event pass, $25 for an annual individual membership, or $40 for an annual family membership
