(Located E5 V26 planted 2002) Welcome to our public six acre fruit garden. The variety Honeycrisp is used to spell out “Welcome”. Proceed south along the west trellis to find many more interesting “espalier” apple and pear trees grown on wires as different patterns. Our volunteers have worked for more than 20 years to carefully shape the Welcome trees. Pipes were first used to outline the shape of each letter. The tree was then pruned to grow in that shape. In the spring, new growth is pliable and branches can be bent to the shape desired.
